Wednesday, Sep 2nd, 2009 you know, i don't talk too much about this on the site, and probably really won't, but man tonite's practice was a lot of fun. charlotte, joeB, sean and i get together two to three times a week, and play music...sometimes it feels like work, and other times it just is, and then there are nights like tonite, where it just seems like a lot of fun. we really sounded good tonite in that tiny 12 x 12 foot room...the four of us pouring it out, and just being ourselves. everybody ought to get the opportunity to share music like that. we all have lives, and yet we still find the time to get together and pour our energy into the 12 - 15 songs we'll randomly play on a given practice night.
we don't really talk a lot down at our rehearsal space. we'll carpool down there together, and shoot the shit about whatever might be going on in our days on the drive south from the hill. perhaps share something cool...maybe bitch about something at work or even talk about something fun we did over the weekend. but when we get down to the space and turn all the amps on and start playing, we really don't say too much other then play music. i've got to admit, i feel real lucky to get the opportunity to share that with them. not everyone gets the chance to share something so intimate and creative with other people, and we do it regularly. it's something people can't take away from us, no matter how many venues stiff us on pay, or how many people don't get our sound, or how many times we go out on the road and play to small rooms with only a few people out there at times. this is something that gets us through the week. it feeds us.
maybe things feel so good, since we are about to go out on the road with a new album, and we just got a brand new powder blue tour van to take us down the coast to some super cool shows. either way, i'm stoked that i have a way to interact with close friends in a way that doesn't happen without effort. i'm stoked that i have band mates that bring it time and time again ...and once in awhile it really just feels special. like tonite.
